About us

The National Association by Biofuels and renewable energy sources in Bulgaria” (NABRESB) is established in 2001 year as a voluntary association. Being renamed to “National Biofuels Association in Bulgaria” (NBAB) in 2007 year, there are 25 members, both juridical and physical entities from the following branches:

  1. Designing and manufacturing of installations for biodiesel, bioethanol, biogas, etc.;
  2. Production of biodiesel from raw and waste vegetable and animal fats;
  3. Production of bioethanol;
  4. Construction of installations for processing of oil plants;
  5. Production of biogas from biomass ;
  6. Palletizing of straw and its further utilization as a biofuel;
  7. Production and use of renewable and alternative energy sources and biofuels for the transport, industrial and household sectors;
  8. Evaluation of the life cycle of the biofuels through energy and emission balance, etc.

The basic objectives of the Association are related to the solving of tasks linked to the production and the use of biofuels, renewable and alternative energy sources as one of the possibilities for increasing the energy independence of Bulgaria and its active participation in the process of environment protection.          

To achieve sustainable development of Bulgaria, the Association has the ambition and the potential to co- operate with all national and foreign, governmental and non-governmental, organizations, juridical and physical entities and universities, being interested in this issue, for the application of encouraging measures, described in the EU strategy for biofuels, and namely:


1. Stimulating demand for biofuels
2. Capturing environmental benefits
3. Developing the production and distribution of biofuels
4. Expanding feedstock supplies
5. Enhancing trade opportunities
6. Supporting research and development

Bulgaria has a huge potential for production of biofuels – over 15% in 2020ã. Its implementation and the utilization of obtained biofuels could contribute essentially to the increase of the energy independence of the country and to the achievement of sustainable development for the future generations.
